I have vowed to visit a beach every month. I am from Cornwall and desperately miss living near the beach, if I go at least once every month I feel like I can recharge and get back to my roots. This recent weekend I drove to Norfolk and Well-next-the-sea to walk the beautiful beach, trying to spot seal, find heart stones and interesting shells. It was beautiful.
Walking the beach costs nothing (except the parking and fuel to get there!).
My Share Picks are performing terribly!
I am taking part in the Fidelity and This is Money Share Picking Challenge and have to admit my shares are doing terribly! I have my own mini league running and I am near the bottom. Not good. The league and competition runs until 4th Dec and there is still plenty of time to enter your own share pick to be with a chance of winning £15k, or £100 in Amazon voucher from my mini league! Drop me an email if you want to be included in my Mrs Mummypenny League.
Debt Stories
I have a huge series of debt stories on my blog written by many personal finance experts. There are so many of us with positive stories about getting into and then out of debt and I want to share as many of them as I can.
This week saw me share a story from Ruth of Money Savvy Mum UK Blog. Who told a story of how life got hugely out of control resulting in 20k of debt. But she worked hard to save extra money, earn extra money and not only repaid the debt but also created £10k of emergency money in its place. Hugely inspirational and an honest story to read from Ruth.
Selling Old Jewellery
I had lunch booked in London with Kara from Best Friends Guide to Cash and Katherine from Lansons PR agency. We havn’t met since before lockdown and were very excited to finally get to meet in person.
Before lunch I took advantage of being near Hatton Gardens and spoke to a few jewellers about the value of some old gold jewellery that I wasnt wearing any more and wanted to sell. I visited a few recommended jewellers and actually got a good price for the bits I wanted to sell. I left Hatton Gardens with £703 of cash that went straight into my bank account, to go towards Christmas and the boys birthdays.
My top tip is that you will actually get more money from pawn brokers than a jewellery trader. The one I spoke to (name check to RPM Pawnbrokers) was very knowledgeable, gave me an honest valuation and did his best to phone around potential buyers to get as much as he could for me.
Mrs Mummypenny Money Saving Tips Group hits 2k
My Private Facebook Group Mrs Mummypenny Money Saving Tips has just hit 2k members, helped out by The Sun re-sharing my menu planning article from July. My instagram also took a jump up by a few hundred this weekend too!
The group is an active place to discuss lots of life money saving, recent discussions include skincare, tights, life insurance, energy bills, to name a few discussions. I love how engaged the group is, much better than my regular Facebook page!
The Boys birthdays begin
Oct and Nov sees three birthdays for all of my boys, so I have been shopping for a few bits. I ordered shoes for two of my boys and saved extra by buying via TopCashBack and saving an extra 5% on shoe purchases.
I have also been using Idealo to check that I have got the best price for the product. They scan all the websites for the best price, then I buy from said website using TopCashBack. Simple!
