Cuddle office puppies, enjoy free snacks and indulge in a free massage at the Staples Happiness Pop-Up Experience in London on 21 January
How about that for a headline!! I was sold on the puppies to be honest.
Heading back into the office after the festive season is a hard pill to swallow for many office workers due to a combination of workplace absenteeism, job unhappiness, and looming Christmas credit card bills. The lack of worker enthusiasm in January is even estimated to cost the UK economy £93 billion a year*.
Blue Monday need not be so blue
As a result, Monday 21 January is also known as Blue Monday, the most depressing day of the year. To give office workers a fix of happiness to help them through the day, Staples is opening a ‘Pop-Up Happiness Experience’ in London. It’ll be open to the public from 8:00am to 4:00pm.
I will be there, dashing into London as soon as the kids are dropped to school. Come join me I would love to see you there. And did I say its FREE!!
From healthy snacks, giant SAD lamps, and a jumbo doodle wall, to free massages, smoothies and office puppies – there will be something for everyone to smile about. Did I mention how excited I am about the puppies?
Happiness in the workplace is so important
Why? Well, because new research from Staples, as part of a report titled ‘In Pursuit of Office Happiness’, has found that happiness in the workplace has a major impact on employee productivity and all-round mental wellbeing – and too many employers are failing to keep their workers happy.
Jeanette Bresitz, Head of Merchandising (UK) at Staples, explains that many psychologists, rightly point out, workplace happiness is about striking a balance between providing employees with the right physical space – such as giving them the tools they need to do their jobs well, and a workspace that promotes mental health – while also providing them with a nurturing culture in which they can grow. Perks like puppies and hammocks aren’t the only answer, but they’re a good place to start. We hope that people enjoy the pop-up event and that we can use the day to better promote office workspace happiness.”
Have you ever been to the Google, Facebook or Twitter head office? Their office space is packed out with fun chill out areas, free food, healthy snacks and an onsite gym. It really made a different to the happiness of their staff.
The full report will be available On Staples’ dedicated webpage for improving the office environment, from the 22 January
