Trying Something New
I had the pleasure of recently trying out a ‘design create your own perfume experience’, an experience gift available from Buyagift and run by The Perfume Studio. I have never tried anything like this before and was excited to give it a go. Faith from Much More with Less, joined me for the event, who has a very good nose for perfumes!
Venues for the experience are available all over the country and I went to the Hilton in London Kensington for mine.
I walked into a very beautiful smelling room and met the team from The Perfume Studio and Buyagift. There was a table with an arc of 21 bottle of scent, these were to be the ingredients of our perfumes.
We were presented with a glass of prosecco and spent some time getting to know the other attendees at the event.
The perfume experience begins
We soon sat down, and the process was explained to us by Helen from the Perfume Studio. We were given one by one 21 different scents. These were split into base, middle and top layer scents. At each stage of the process Helen explained each scent and each part of the process.
We were going to be making Eau De Parfum, a more pure and expensive perfume which you need smaller amounts of and that lasts longer. We started with the base notes scents and we started to receive card sticks with the scent on. The process at this point was simple, we just had to assess if we liked the smell or not. We had to place the card sticks into piles actions of like, not sure and don’t like.
Each smell was explained by Helen, what popular perfumes they might smell like and where the smell comes from. It was really interesting to find out what the ingredients are of the perfumes that we all know and love. Faith was quite the expert as recognising which popular perfumes were made of which scent!
Base, Middle and Top Note Scents
The base scents are the part of the perfumes that lasts, that can still be smelt in the evening after spritzing in the morning. There are scents like musky, woody and amber in here. They were strong scents and it was easy to work out if it was immediate like or dislike.
After the base scents there was the middle scents. There were lots of florals in here and classic smalls like tonic sport (think Brut!!). Thirdly we ended with the top note scents, scents like citrus, green and herbal.
Once we had our selection of our favourites we needed to combine them together to see which combination smelt divine. I had got my favourite down to six scents so spent some time combining base, middle and top scents to find my favourite.
My Choice is Made
I settled on the mixture of amber for the base, ozonic for the middle and green for the top. The last part of choosing your favourite scents and making the perfect combination was quite hard. When you combine the scents in different ways they really change how they smell. But I did finally settle on my favourite.
All details were added to a card, we chose what perfume bottle we wanted (I went for a silver diamante spritzer!) and we were escorted off for some afternoon tea whilst our perfumes were created. Here is a picture of the spritzers to choose from and yes that is a pen with perfume at one end!! What a great idea!
Time for Afternoon Tea
I do adore an afternoon tea and do try to treat myself and my loved ones with these every so often. The tier of afternoon tea goodies had two of everything for fair splitting. There were beautiful savoury sandwiches, freshly bakes scones with clotted cream and jam and a selection of patisserie cakes. The mini Victoria sponge was my favourite!
Once afternoon tea was finished our perfumes were brought out to us. I really love mine and have been wearing it every day since creating it. The perfume studio now holds a digital record of my perfume, so I can re-order when I have run out.
This was a fun experience that is such a fun gift to give to or to experience yourself. Perfect for hen dos or birthday parties or even corporate team building events.
