50 Things Before 50

MANY YEARS AGO I wrote an article about the 40 things Before 40. Forty things I wanted to try/achieve before my 40th birthday. I kept it updated with the things I had achieved over the last year of my 30s and also the decade that followed. I’ve achieved a lot in ten years! The few things I haven’t done and that I still want to do have carried over to this new list.

Th 4e0 things article has been read 50,000+ times since I published it in 2015. Now ten years later my 50th birthday is looming. Its time for a new list.

Turning 50 fills me with some fear,10% fear, but more 90% excitement about a magical decade. I have many older friends who fill me with hope, getting older means more freedom, less giving a ****, more acceptance, less reliance on others, more self compassion, less worry.

There is so much I want to achieve in life, particularly in this golden decade where my physical and mental health is at it’s peak and my earning capability is at its highest. I turn 50 in March 2027, and so much time to travel, learn, breathe and experience the things I love the most.

From a parenting perspective, my children are older, three teens, with my eldest maybe off to university in 2026. Middle son is 16 and youngest is 13.

And I remain single, I’m very good at bouncing from relationships of a few months to another. Will this ever change? Who knows. What I do know is that I’ve only got myself to rely on financially, but I have the best of friends to rely on for emotional support. And day raves/festivals.
