University Essentials List
I updated one of from my favourite posts last week, What Financial Advice would I give to my 18-year-old self. A super handy post about ways to save and make money when you go off to university or get your first home. A new post for this week is my university essentials list to what you need to take away with you to uni, I am thinking here kitchen, bedroom and bathroom goodies. Some of this is my story and what I took 😉 And I have sourced some incredibly bargain goodies that will be useful for you when you leave this September…. here you are my University essentials list!
Brunel 1995
Let’s go back to the 90’s. The music was the big battle between Blur Country House & Oasis Roll with it. I bought Blur;-) I left the beaches and countryside of Penzance, Cornwall and drove 300 miles to Uxbridge, Brunel University for my 4-year adventure. A packed car and 6 hours later we arrived at P-block flats on the Brunel campus. I had a cell-like room in a flat with 6 bedrooms and a shared bathroom and kitchen. My room had a bed, a wardrobe, a desk and a sink and a view overlooking the campus. 2nd floor. Not bad apart from the cell comparison, I remember my sister crying when she saw it.
I needed the essentials to take to uni, I remember reading a list of stuff in the Times and getting what was on that. I bought what I could afford and begged and borrowed the rest.
University Essentials List – Kitchen
So you don’t need amazing matching stuff here, as a) it will get used by other people b) it might get nicked c) you might be drunk a lot so it might get dropped;-)
- 4 large plates, small plates, bowls, mugs, glasses (£4.99 for set of 4)
- Cutlery set (£4.99)
- Saucepan set (£9.99)
- Frying pan (£2.99)
- Baking tray (£3.99)
- Knives set (£3.99)
- Chopping board (£2.99)
- Kitchen gadgets including fish slice, wooden spoon, slotted spoon (£1.49 each)
- Sieve set (£4.99)
- Vegetable Peeler, cheese grater (£1.49 each)
- Tea Towel 5 set (£3.49)
- kitchen brush set (£1.99)
University Essentials List – Bedroom
Make you bedroom and sanctuary as nice as possible. This is your private escape from the manic world of university, where you study, where you entertain, where you get ready before a night out. I had lots of pictures of my friends from home, pretty little bit, cushions, cuddly toys.
- Pillow & Duvet set (Single £12.99, double £14.99)
- Mattress protector (Single £3.99, double £4.99)
- Clothes Airer (£12.99)
- Bath Towel & Hand Towel (£3.99 for bath or 2 pack hand)
- Fluffy Throw (£8.99)
- Cushions (£4.99)
I make that a total outlay of £123.75. That’s pretty good to kit out your student digs. Maybe you don’t need the cushions or the fluffy throw to save some pounds, but I like them and they are nice to wrap yourself in and feel a bit of comfort when you have moved hundreds of miles from home.
For convenience all of the above goodies are available from Aldi in the current special buy promotion so check out your nearest shop or online. I have included prices as a reference point for you what you would look to pay in Aldi and to see what you can kit out your halls of residence or flat for.
Have an amazing fresher’s week and time at uni. My 4 years at Brunel really were some of the best years of my life. I made friends for life and really prepared for adult life living away from home, managing my own finances, cooking my meals, cleaning my room. It’s amazing and I am so glad I did it.

Exploring ‘How to Improve Engineering Education’ is a testament to the evolution of pedagogy, much like the transformation that essay projects bring to traditional learning. Just as engineering education evolves to prepare students for real-world challenges, essay projects https://www.nursingpaper.com/examples/heritage-assessment-essay/ equip learners with the critical thinking and communication skills needed to excel in academia and beyond. Both endeavors focus on innovation, fostering holistic development and problem-solving, ensuring a brighter future for students and the field.”
