Throughout life, we’re told various things about our futures. When we’re young, we usually get told that we can grow up and pursue any career as long as we put our mind to it and work hard. As we grow older, we realize that “anything” might be a bit of a stretch, especially once we learn about careers and the low chance of actually getting to do what we want in life. Eventually, we settle for the jobs that are within reach and a small percentage of people will manage to follow their childhood dreams and end up in a job they’ve always wanted.
However, as time goes by and technology advances, we’ve been given opportunities to quite literally do whatever we want and still make money from it. If there are people that fill bathtubs with food items and get millions of YouTube views, then the phrase “do what you want and make money from it” really is true.
If you’re passionate about a skill you have, such as painting, fitness or even knitting, then there are dozens of ways to share your skills online, teach others and also get money from it. There’s the traditional route of one-to-one coaching and this is popular for those that want to pursue an online fitness career or prefer personal teaching than classroom teaching. The other option is to create videos that are hosted on online teaching websites, where people pay monthly fees to access a wide variety of different lessons and courses. You could even combine the next two methods (blogging and YouTube) as platforms for your teaching.
Blogging is another fantastic way to make money online, and thanks to the format, you can really just blog about anything you want to. For instance, if you have a passion for old board games or antiques, you could start up a blog and write about them to your heart’s content. The way you make a living from blogging is often through affiliate marketing. For instance, if you’re big on antiques and regularly purchase a certain type of polish to clean up your antiques, you’d write about it on your blog, explain why you use it, and also have a link at the end to Amazon or another retailer where they can buy it. Since you referred a customer, you’ll get some money for each purchase they make.
YouTube is another platform that relies on advertising and affiliate marketing in order to make money, but it’s a gigantic website where anyone can make it big. As long as you have some knowledge of video editing (or have someone to help you do it) and a passionate subject that you love to talk about, YouTube can be an excellent way to make a living doing whatever you want. Be it making videos about gaming, knitting, art or even uploading your own songs, there are plenty of opportunities available with YouTube as long as you’re comfortable using social media to grow your exposure.
